Texas membership, AAA Texas is planning a job fair September 10, 2009 from
3pm to 6pm at the state headquarters in Irving at 6555 Highway 161. That’s
at the northeast corner of the George Bush Tollway and the John Carpenter
Freeway, State Highway 114.

AAA Texas anticipates opening new offices in 2010 and this hiring
initiative is to support the growth of the business. During 2009, AAA
Texas grew the sales staff by 25 percent to meet member demand for AAA
products. AAA Texas is planning to hire career-minded sales professionals
who will sell membership and insurance products including auto, homeowners,
renters, watercraft and umbrella insurance.

All of these openings are for full time positions with regular medical,
dental, a 401k, the company’s pension plan, a free AAA membership and
employee insurance discounts. Most of these jobs will be at District
Offices in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Prior insurance experience is not

Cars have become safer and more fun to drive over the years thanks to all kinds of innovative technology. Seat belts and air bags have played a major role in reducing accident fatalities and massachusetts auto insurance quotes injuries over the last few decades and that has helped to bring down the cost of auto insurance for many.

The latest advances are turning our ears into something out of Buck Rogers. We can start them remotely, we can talk to our family and friends via embedded blue tooth devices and passengers (the kids) can sit back and watch a movie. Cars are now parallel parking themselves, which is probably good news for the people, who tap and bump their way into tight spots.

Can it be long before our ears are driving themselves too? They’re already able to tell us how to get from point A to point B. Now cars can inform on us–if we want them to.

GPS devices, as well as other gadgets, can collect information about how many miles we actually drive as well as other actuarially useful information. By agreeing to turn that data over to insurance companies, drivers can qualify for lower rates.

Businesses with commercial fleets as well as individual drivers stand to benefit from the new developments on this front. Commercial auto insurance can be one of a company’s big insurance expenditures and anything that can help save a few bucks is a good thing.

The pay-as-you-drive (PAYD) concept is not new, but it’s beginning to catch on with advances in technology and changes in auto insurance regulation. Devices are becoming increasingly sophisticated and are now improving on their ability to capture critical information in addition to miles driven, such as where those miles were driven and when.

New technology is also making it easier for insurers to collect the data from drivers.

As interest in PAYD, or usage-based auto insurance grows, more states are encouraging implementation of PAYD programs. PAYD auto insurance policies are already an option in 34 states and California amended its regulations last year to allow for PAYD auto insurance by fall of 2009.

State and federal officials are getting behind PAYD because research suggests that if premiums were charged based on miles driven, there would be a reduction in driving and related congestion, along with fewer crashes and less pollution.

More insurers are also interested in making PAYD available to customers as they move to protect their business from competitors and expand their product offerings.

In a survey of 163 insurance company representatives, 59 percent said their companies had investigated or considered offering a PAYD product, according to Exigen Insurance Solutions.

Nearly half of respondents said the cost of implementing PAYD products into their systems is their major barrier. Twenty percent cited consumer privacy concerns, 18 percent the cost of telemetry. devices, 14 percent state insurance regulations and 4 percent existing PAYD patent infringement.

Although some people, like my husband, don’t like the idea of having their every move monitored, these programs are voluntary. And where company fleets are concerned, it may not be a bad idea to know where the employees are going when out on company business.

The 2009 NPC USA featured the best of the best in the amateur ranks. Below, we call out some notable performances.

WHO’S UP

Winning headlines aside, here’s who outperformed expectations.

* CHAD LACOUNT

(super heavyweight, 4th) With a heavy fourth in the ‘07 North Americans as his only other pro qualifier, few were counting on 38-year-old LaCount, but at 5′10″ and 232 pounds, his skin was as thin as rice paper.

* MATTHEW LOWDEN

(light heavyweight, 3rd) Speaking of striations, this 5′10″ Seattle resident would seem too tall to not be a super, but his aesthetic collection of cuts and his wispy waist had many thinking he was the best light heavy.

* VLADIMIR SIZOV

(heavyweight, 4th) After eighths at both the USA and Nats last year, Sizov, an acrobatic, 39-year-old Russian immigrant, catapulted into trophy territory with a back worth flipping over. Even his name has size.

* KEITH WILLIAMS

(super heavyweight, 2nd) Eighth here the previous two years, this 5′10″ Minnesotan weighed in at a crisp 250 pounds (55 pounds more than Lowden), and with additional width in the legs and lower lats, he’ll nab a pro card.

* FOUR TO WATCH

These four bodybuilders finished out of the running, but each demonstrated posedown potential.

* GEORGE ASMUS

(light heavyweight, 8th) At 39, this Illinoisan may not have many years to make it big, but he excavated so many ham, glute and back lines by moving down from the heavies that he could move up fast.

* RUBEN ESCOBAR

(super heavyweight, 13th) Returning seven years after a heavy fifth at the ‘02 USA, Escobar, seo consultant a 57″ Californian, is still only 30, with eye-catching density, but at 229 pounds, he was detail deficient and needs to rejoin the heavies.

* RYAN PATERACKI

(super heavyweight, 11th) The ‘09 Southern States champ debuted here at the pro-qualifier level with a dry, aesthetic physique, but the 232-pounder will need more meat, especially in his arms, to ascend into the top five.

* CHRIS PRZYBYLA

(light heavyweight, 9th) This 30-year-old New Yorker was smooth and lacking lower lats, but he packed a lot onto his 5′6″ frame and sported the widest wheels in the class. When he brings cuts to the fight, we’ll all be saying “Przybyla.”

Letters: Illegals & their flu shots

I WAS AT a clinic on Cottman Avenue the other day, waiting with my driver’s license and insurance card to get a flu shot.

There was a family of what appeared to be illegal aliens (mother, father and daughter). The guy georgia auto insurance quotes asked them for a license and medical card.

They had only a driver’s license, yet he still let them go ahead. I would like to know who’s going to pay for their flu shot while they cut our medical benefits (senior, disabled, etc.)?

These folks get paid under the table, buy cars, clothes, etc. and were able to send $57 billion to Mexico while our economy suffers.

Send them back to Mexico.
